Reiko Chikada visited the Shanghai Expo and found the United Kingdom Pavilion magnificent.
It was impressive enough to blew away the tiredness of lining up for 1.5h.

Guangzhou International Lighting Technology Symposium 2010

Reiko Chikada was invited as a speaker to the Guangzhou International Lighting Technology Symposium 2010 hosted by Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd. from June 9th to 11th in Guangzhou, China.

On June 9th, Reiko Chikada participated in the forum "How to ensure the implementation of lighting projects achieve the desired results at different stages?". Mr. Martin Ma, the host of the symposium, Mr. Xu Dong Liang, Chinese lighting designer, Mr. Uno Lai, Taiwanese lighting designer, and Reiko Chikada discussed about working methods and challenges in respective countries.

On June 11th, Reiko Chikada made a case study presentation about Kyushu National Museum lighting design on the topic of "Architecture lighting design integrated solution." It attracted a large attendance.

Reiko Chikada gave a 2.5h lecture entitled "Light Environment Utility in the Case of Landscape Lighting" at the design study meeting held by Urban Renaissance Agency.

Kanazawa Castle Park Stonewall

The lighting of Kanazawa Castle Park stonewall and Sanjukken-nagaya storehouse designed by Reiko Chikada Lighting Design Inc. has been turned on. Newly reconstructed stonewall of Rikou-yagura Turret and 140m-long stonewall from Tatsumi-yagura Turret to Imorizaka will be illuminated everyday from sunset to 22:00pm.

Viewing the long stonewall illuminated with soft light from the new sightseeing spot "Shiinoki Cultural Complex", the former Ishikawa prefecture government building, one can realize the magnificent appearance of Kanazawa Castle.

Kanazawa Castle and Kahokumon-gate

The Kahokumon-gate, the front gate of Kanazawa Castle, which had disappeared 130 years ago was reconstructed. In the ceremony of its completion, lighting of Hishi-yagura Turret, Gojukken-nagaya storehouse,Hashizumemon-tsuzukiyagura Turret, and Kahokumon-gate were turned on for the visitors. Reiko Chikada Lighting Design Inc. had designed the lighting since 2000 hoping that many people would have an opportunity to know the culture of Kanazawa.

light+building 2010

light+building 2010,the international trade fair for lighting and architectural technology was held in Frankfurt, Germany. New LED modules, high quality LED lighting fixtures, and existing lighting fixtures with lamps replaced by LEDs were released. In addition, lighting control system with human presence sensor and day-light level sensor to reduce the daily energy expenditure gained increased attention.

Cherry Blossom Illumination at Hamarikyu Onshi Teien (Garden)

In 2010 Hamarikyu Cherry Blossom Illumination, we created "moon light flower" by illuminating the cherry blossom flowers with LED lights gradually changing from white to pale pink, "Water flower" by a floating lantern, and "moon light shadow" by RGB colored lamps. Visitors enjoyed taking photos with them in the night garden.

Cherry Tree Illumination at Hama-rikyu Garden

The main theme of this year's cherry tree illumination at Hama-rikyu Garden is "Eternal Spring" featuring Floating Flower Lantern, 12 Seasonal Flower Lanterns, and Flower Shadows by Moonlight.
The illumination is designed to make people feel the long history of the garden.

This year again, cherry blossom viewing with hand-made Japanese paper LED lantern is planned.

During Yae-Zakura Illumination,In the garden, which takes about an hour to look around, you can enjoy more than 10 special kinds of cherry trees, including Goshiki-Sakura (white, yellow, pale pink, pink, and pink-red colored cherry blossoms.)

Reiko Chikada attended the Chiba City Special Committee on the Landscape Council.
She participated in the discussion about the Chiba City Landscape Plan as the Chiba City Landscape Advisor.

Completion of Two Small Theaters: "Theater BON BON" and "Theater HOPE"

Two Small Theaters, "Theater BON BON" and "Theater HOPE", opened in the Nakano Station South Exit area, famous as the center of theater world in Tokyo (Architect: Masumi Hosoi, Lighting Design: Reiko Chikada and Sachi Takanaga.)

Reiko Chikada Lighting Design Inc. planned the lighting for the sculpture "Myth of Rainbow" (Yuko Horiuchi), entrance foyer, and stair hall. Bright and modern light welcome the visitors. The members of theater troupe are pleased with the stylish lighting design, too.

International Lighting Design Index 2010

A specialized book on Lighting design featuring around 100 world-leading projectshas been published in Germany. "Light is a 21st century building material."

The editors of ILDI 2010 are Helmut M.Bien, a curator of the "Luminale" festival in Frankfurt, and Markus Helle, the Chief Editor of "Highlight" magazine. They are both famous in lighting design scene.

Our lighting design of Chinzan-so and Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Chinzan-so, which halved the energy consumption by using LEDs, appears in the book.

A Happy New Year!

I saw the "Kage Fuji (shadow cast by Mount Fuji)" from the Kengamine peak of Mt. Fuji, the highest mountain in Japan (3,776 meters high.)

In the dim light of dawn, the black shadow on the foot of the mountain looked like as drawn by an air brush.

Looking both at the "first sunrise" appearing on the horizon and the "Kage Fuji" created by point light source, I felt my "Japanese DNA" inside. (Reiko Chikada)
