Hokkaido Hotel

June 8, construction completed of the main building of Hokkaido Hotel in Obihiro, Hokkaido. The entire lighting design of the building was produced by Chikada's office for Zoo Design, Inc. The concept of the main building is "Miami deco", comparing the new building "Ezo deco". Leafy restaurants and fresh rooms are very popular.

The Sculptures in Ube

June 7, the first-light ceremony of the sculptures in Ube, Yamaguchi, was held. Reiko Chikada office was in charge of the lighting planning of the project.

A Review on Shinkenchiku

June 1, Hosoda Residence, "White Box" was reviewed on Japanese architectural professional magazine Shinkenchiku November issue published by Shinkenchiku-sha. The entire lighting design of the building was produced by Chikada's office. Reiko Chikada said "Hosoda requested 'As the whole is one space by lightings'. Completely white ceiling and floor. INTEL 2001-World Light Show

May 24, Reiko Chikada delivered a lecture at the conference sponsored by ELDA（Europe Lighting Designers Association), in Milan, Italy. The theme was "Taking the Callenge", and she took up Saitama new city in Saitama, Japan. Since May 23, INTEL 2001-World Light Show had held for four days, a lot of people concerning the lightings had been from many countries.

Lectures at Shizuoka Culture and Art College

April 17, Reiko Chikada started to lecture at Shizuoka Culture and Art College. She will deliver the lectures titled "Spatial Direct Projects" and "Seminar of Spatial Direct Design" until May 15.

Kanazawa Johshi Park Lighting Projects

March 31, Reiko Chikada Lighting Design Inc. planned the lighting projects for Kanazawa Johshi Park and surrounding areas. From September 2001, "Tree-Planting Campaign" will be held at Kanazawa Johshi Park in Kanazawa-shi, Ishikawa, Japan. Reiko Chikada Lighting Design Inc. arranged the course as a secretariat to leave the culture and history of good old city, Kanazawa.

Saginuma-Shohtenkai Street

March 23, the first-light ceremony of Saginuma Shohtenkai Street was held in Kawasaki-shi, Kanagawa, Japan. The beautiful cherry blossoms are seen at this street, however, leaves prevent from lighting and it makes dark around there. New Street Lamps make the street light, and the same time, light up the cherry blossoms' tunnel. To restrain the artificial light effect, light up season was restricted between spring and leafy summer.

Won IDA Award 2001

Cleantopia Marugame: An Environment Conscious Garbage Plant

March 10, Reiko Chikada Lighting Design Inc. won this year's IDA Award; International Award for a quality lighting design and installation. The awarded project is Cleantopia Marugame: An Environment Conscious Garbage Plant (Marugame-shi Kagawa, Japan). Reiko Chikada intended that the lightings moderated the neighborhood's bad feelings, which are occurred by the built of the incinerator. On the one hand, this project tells the "personal motion" to the outside, on the other hand, make the natural night view restraint the artificial lightings.

Hosoda's Residence

March 4, construction of Hosoda's Residence completed in Sedagaya-ku, Tokyo, Japan. Reiko Chikada used the up lights to the large stairs from the floor and the pendant lamps to the upper part of the dining table. This project was possibly simple lightings as the whole is one space.
