"Lighting Design"

Reiko Chikada gave a speech, "Lighting Design", at Rotary Club of Kyoto.
150 members attended the weekly meeting held at Kyoto Hotel Okura.

Heart Island Shinden 1-4 Blocks (Design Manager: Urban Renaissance Agency Central Tokyo Branch Office) received Town Development Encouragement Prize.

MIKIMOTO Christmas Illuminations

On November 7th, Ginza MIKIMOTO Christmas Illuminations lighting ceremony was held.

The fantastic lighting show with music is now performed from 10:00 to 22:00 until December 25th. This year's main theme of the illuminations is "Dream": What creates the future is strength to dream. Dream is a power to change the world. Dream is a power to create new beauty ( MIKIMOTO & CO., LTD. )

On the hour every hour (except 17:00 on Saturday, Sunday, and holiday), glass snowmen play "Someday My Prince Will Come (jazz version)" for two minutes.

Completion ceremony of Gifu Station North Square

Completion ceremony of Gifu Station North Square was held. (Organizer: Gifu City, Architects: Teikoku Engineering Consultants, Inc.; Nikken Sekkei Civil Engineering Ltd.; CTI Engineering Co., Ltd.)

During the past half decade, starting from the master plan in 2004, Reiko Chikada Lighting Design Inc. worked on the total lighting plan of the 300m-wide square. Reiko Chikada focused especially on the deck lighting in image of the famous Nagaragawa River and the original lighting pole designed in the motif of Gifu Butterfly. In the main square, a 2-minute symphony of "music, light, and fountain" is played every 20 minutes at night. The symphony change depending on the day of the week. Each symphony has original theme: Monday/Craftsmanship, Tuesday/Gifu Butterfly, Wednesday/Kinkazan Mountain, Thursday/Ukai (cormorant fishing), Friday/Festival, Saturday/Nobunaga, the Lord of Gigu Area in 16 century, and Sunday/Nagaragawa River. Up-and coming composer Toshiyuki Takanaga wrote pieces for the symphonies.

The 1st Saitama Design Seminar

Reiko Chikada gave a lecture at the 1st Saitama Design Seminar held by Saitama Society of Architects. The topic was "Rules and Techniques of Lighting Design." She explained the procedures of residential and townscape lighting design.

Chiba City Special Committee on the Landscape Council

Reiko Chikada attended the 2009 Chiba City Special Committee on the Landscape Council. She took part in the discussion about the Chiba City Landscape Plan (draft version) as a committee member.

The 4th "Landscape Seminar"

Reiko Chikada was invited as a guest speaker at the 4th "Landscape Seminar" held by NPO Town Design Aid. The topic of the seminar was "Understanding, Reading, and Creating the Light." There were many questions from municipal government officials, civil engineers, architects, and urban engineering students involved in townscape.

Won 2009 IES Illumination Awards

Reiko Chikada Lighting Design Inc. received 2009 IES Illumination Awards/ Award of Merit.
The award-winning projects are the following.
