Summary

Tohoku University is located in a broad country land surrounded by red pine woods. The Dining Hall was constructed for dining, social occasion, and studying. And the Book Caf? was constructed for gathering and relaxing. Our lighting design concept was “cozy small distances”. We considered that relaxing spaces just like living rooms at home were required in the spacious university facilities. Therefore, we effectively created cozy atmosphere with pendant lights, while achieved sufficient illuminance levels for reading books with architectural lightings. Students gather with friends or relax by themselves under the light as we intended.
