Won IESNA Award of Merit 2000

Reiko Chikada Lighting Design Inc. won this year's International Illumination Design Award of Merit. The awarded projects are Toyoda Ohashi (Toyoda-shi, Aichi Prefecture, Japan), Ibaraki Prefectural Office (Mito-shi, Ibaraki Pref.) and Ibaraki Prefectural Development Corporation Building (Mito-shi, Ibaraki Pref.).

Toyoda Ohashi is an extraordinary-shaped bridge designed after the image of beast's bones. Chikada's office prepared two lighting programs that can be switched over from one to the other. One is to emphasize the appearance like white beast's bones; the other lay bluish color on the blade boards on both sides, symbolizing rich water flowing below.

Ibaraki Prefectural Office required an atmosphere where citizens feel easy to come in. While most visitors come in the daytime, high-luminance warm lights are selected as the main source.

For the new building of Ibaraki Prefectural Development Corporation, Chikada's office offered a special concept called "Magic Lantern." As well as emphasizing the solid appearance of the whole building, colors of lights are carefully selected so it can be a landmark that warmly welcomes people.
