11th International Symposium "Sustainable Healthy Buildings"
Reiko Chikada was invited by Korea Society of Lighting and Visual Environment as a guest speaker to give a speech about castle and rampart lighting design. She gave a 45 minute speech titled "Lighting Design to Create Characters in the Cities" at the symposium held at InterContinental Seoul. In the speech, Chikada first stated that the roles of lighting designers are to promote the economic usage of energy and to enrich the citizens' lives. Next, she introduced the case studies of Hiroshima Castle, Shurijo Castle, and Kanazawa Castle. She explained that her lighting design showed the sign of the city's recovery through restoration of the castle, the pride of the city by creating the main feature of tourism, and created the city nightscape of which people can strongly feel the presence of the castle and ramparts.
