Lighting Design Award Symposium, The Illuminating Engineering Institute of Japan

We received the Excellence Award for "Kanazawa Port: Clad in Five Colors of Kaga," and a presentation of the lighting design was given by Hisae Nozawa and Sachi Takanaga. Fumio Kinoshita, a member of the jury, made the following comments. Kanazawa is a representative cultural city of the Hokuriku region, with "Kaga Hyakumangoku" on the east side of JR Kanazawa Station. On the other side of Kanazawa Station, a 15-minute drive in a rental car from the west exit will bring you to Kanazawa Port. The lighting design was highly evaluated for the port, which opened to the Sea of Japan as an industrial port project and was developed as an international tourist base, including luxury cruise ships from overseas. The project is to create a new tourist base by Ishikawa Prefecture by fantastically linking facilities of different management entities (cruise terminal plaza, cement silos, gantry cranes, bridges, patrol boats, etc.) around the port using light in the five basic colors of Kanazawa's traditional craft, "Kaga Yuzen". It is regrettable that the facility has not been able to achieve its original purpose due to the global outbreak of new coronavirus infection, which has prevented the arrival of luxury cruise liners, but visitors can already be seen enjoying the scenery day and night. However, we have already seen visitors enjoying the scenery by day and night, and we look forward to further developments.
