Nighttime Landscape Lighting Completed at the Site of the Former West Outer Fortress (Kanazawa City)

The “Sōgamae” refers to the moats and earthen walls constructed during the early Edo period to defend Kanazawa Castle. Only a faint trace remains of the moats and earthen walls behind the Kanazawa City Hall, along with a large zelkova tree. The moats of the Sōgamae, which have outlived their original purpose, were filled in and narrowed, and are now used as irrigation channels to enrich the surrounding area.
