Lighting in Mexico City

Reiko Chikada was invited as a guest speaker at IES International Lighting Design Meeting held by Mexico Section. While visiting Mexico City, she looked around the lighting in the city. She felt Mexican colors and dynamic use of natural light in Hotel Camino Real (1968, Ricardo Legorreta), Biblioteca Vasconcelos (Alberto Kalach), and Capilla San Vicente de Paul (Felix Candela 1910-1997). She also felt a side of Mexico City that achieved economic growth when she found LED lighting with solar battery in highway, a lighting monument along a main road, and an architecture curving in three dimensions.
