Akishima-ensis (Education and Welfare Center)
The Akishima-ensis, the education and welfare center, has been completed in the center of Akishima City, Tokyo (charge: Takanaga, Architects: AXS SATOW INC.,). Under the concept of “Connect, Spread, Find, and Nurture," a whale library and interchange plaza incorporating natural light, facilities for disabled people (face-to-face reading room, recording room), and a local museum that displays real fossils. The actual size replica of Akishima Whale is on display at the atrium entrance, and people can feel that Akishima City used to be under the sea around 2 million years ago.
